Want to deepen your understanding of the marine environment while diving? Marine Biology Week is made for you!
Welcome to San Salvador—a pristine wild island in the eastern Bahamas, where warm, crystalline waters ranging from 23 to 30°C meet turquoise blue horizons, dramatic drop-offs, and spectacular underwater walls!
We’re Only Blue, and we’re proud to welcome divers from around the world—many of whom come back year after year!
This year, we’ve launched Marine Biology Week for curious enthusiasts: do you marvel at the underwater world? Want to learn more about these fragile ecosystems and iconic species like corals, sharks, and sea turtles? Then this week is designed for you! It’s an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about the diverse species found on Caribbean reefs while diving some of the most fascinating sites in the Bahamas.
Program Includes:
- PADI Reef Rescue Diver Certification
- PADI Coral Reef Conservation Certification
- PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Certification
- 1 Shallow Water Refresh / Buoyancy Skills Session
- 6 Marine Environment Training Dives
- 1 Boat-Based “Underwater Naturalist” Snorkeling Session
- 4 Theory Presentations: Coral & Reefs, Sharks, Fish, Sea Turtles
Program Details:
We begin with a shallow water session to review fundamental diving skills, equipment checks, and refine buoyancy control—the better your buoyancy, the more comfortable you’ll be and the less likely you’ll accidentally touch the reef during your dives.
We also offer a guided snorkeling session to help you start identifying different living organisms on shallow reefs.
The four presentations include PADI’s Shark Conservation course material plus an additional deep-dive into shark biology. You’ll also receive presentations covering PADI Coral Conservation and Reef Rescue Diver courses, learning about coral and coral reefs, their critical importance, the threats they face, and how to actively participate in coral nursery maintenance. A presentation on reef fish will help you understand fish behavior, reproduction, and how to distinguish different families. Finally, the sea turtle presentation explores the unique characteristics of all seven species and highlights their vulnerability.
Six dives are included in the program: two dives for the Shark Conservation course (please note that while we see sharks very frequently, we cannot guarantee sightings—however, this isn’t mandatory for PADI certification, and we’ll focus on marine species identification in any case), two dives at coral nurseries where you’ll participate in maintenance work, and two species identification dives.
